Get to Know Our Story
With a desire to explore the world! — Dirtbag Tea was founded in 2020 by art educator Lela Lunsford and visual journalist Jason Pierce, on the principles of living small to live big and exploring what it means to be a “dirtbag.” We are more than just a company, we are a family, and we are part of a community. Being environmentally friendly and socially responsible are top priorities as we showcase some of the amazing teas we love and share how we develop our individual creative activities. We want to inspire you and others to minimize your own life — and discover how big you really are.

Lela Lunsford
Lela Lunsford has spent her life advocating for and raising her 2 children, both of whom are on the autism spectrum. Inspired by the community she found during that time, she founded Beyond the Spectrum Arts where she shares her love of art and teaching to a wide range of students, including a special focus on children with autism.
Her creative side drives her as an amateur photographer and her love of art guides her latest adventure as she looks to find new and creative ways to use discarded and reusable materials in many of her upcycling projects.
When she is not being supermom, teaching or being creative, you can find her hiking a trail, backpacking the Sierra Nevada and exploring the natural world around her.
